Newsletter 11/04/14

Hey all you gnarly adventure junkies!
I will start this email by saying, Hello No Shave November! This will make more sense when you make to the Pro-Tips section of the email, so keep reading!
This is what happened:
Katherine took a caving trip down to Buckneer Cave, which is by Bloomington. It was cold and wet and totally awesome because someone threw up! Remember kids, breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, especially when doing physical activity.
This is what is happening:
Our friendly neighborhood kayaking consultant Caesar gave an informative presentation about kayaking. If yakin' (kayaking not puking like they do while caving) sounds like fun, don't forget to go to roll sesh which are every Monday and Wednesday 8:00pm-9:30pm in the dive pool at the CoRec. Any questions/comments/concerns about yakin' or roll sesh, shoot Caesar an email at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Also, if you missed the presentation or just wanna watch some yakin' videos (who doesn't?) here is the link to the presentation Caesar gave:
Remember, if you still haven't paid dues or signed a waiver this can be done after any of the meetings or down in the gear closet during any of the openings. Dues are $20 for the semester and $25 for the year, try to bring exact amounts because we're lame and don't usually have change.
This is what is going to happen:

There will be an orienteering trip going out on November 15th (this is subject to change, look out for emails), John Luckenbach and Evan Kinney our POCAR coordinators will be leading this trip. Mountain Biking Trip
The mountain bikers will be going to Ray's Indoor Mountain Biking Park in Milwaukee, WI on November 15th.This will be a day trip leaving around 8 or 9am and returning around midnight. The cost to get into the park is about $27 and then to rent a bike and helmet is about $15 more. Here is the website for Ray's: for some more info. Here is the link to sign up for the trip:
This is a SUPER beginner friendly trip so even if you have never mountain biked before this is a good trip to go on.
Every semester we have POC climbing lock-in at Hoosier Heights Indianapolis and we have a kayaking lock-in in the dive pool at the CoRec. Usually they are not on the same night but this semester, they are! They will both be held on December 5th.
Climbing Lock-In: The lock-in will be from 8:00pm - 8:00am. The cost will be around $18 without pizza. The club will bring all the ropes from the gear closet for this. Even if you don't climb there is a foam pit, crate stacking and last year a bunch of us laid around and knit together! If nothing else come to hang out, eat pizza and sleep on the ground of a climbing gym. There will be another email sent out in the coming weeks with a sign-up and driver board.
Kayaking Lock-In: The lock-in will start around 7 or 8pm and go until 12ish. There will be a group that is going to attend the kayaking lock-in and the climbing lock-in. You DO NOT have to have kayaked before to attend this lock-in. You can learn more about kayaking, play around with the raft or just swim around with everyone, and of course there will be pizza, sooo there's that. Look out for an email from Caesar with a sign-up and more information.

Ellen and I WILL be making a POC beard calendar for 2015 and we know that all of you (women included) want to be involved with this. We plan to take photos of beards in various fashions at the end of November. This meanS DO NOT SHAVE YOUR BEARDS. We need them, the world needs them. Click here for some inspiration:
Stay awesome as usual kiddos, enjoy some last bits of fall before West Lafayette turns into Antarctica and you need to borrow the club skis.
