POC Newsletter 11/30/10

CLUB BUSINESS

The approximate dates for moving the gear closet will be December 8th, 9th, and 10th.  Look for more emails describing the exact day and time of the move.  Bring all your friends and come to hear Mandy’s jokes, eat pizza, and learn what it is like to be an ant.

Please drop off moving boxes to the gear closet during any of the gear hours to make the move easier.

Our usual club meetings for next semester will be held in Forney room B124

POC apparel sale going on NOW! Hurry to the gear closet to save $ on all Purdue Outing Club apparel before it runs out! Christmas is right around the corner and the hottest item this year is POC gear! So get one for your mother, your brother, your bus driver, your mail man, and that guy that let you copy his notes that one time you missed class. They will all love it!

POCAR

Registration is now open! Sign up your teams before December 13 to get a T-shirt.  Any late applications will be charged a fee of $5 extra per person, and you will not be able to receive a T-shirt.  It is time to start finding your compasses, making new friends, refreshing your navigation skills, and training if you have not started already.  You are going to want to be in prime shape Martin Luther King day for this 48 hour outdoor adventure race.

We need more POCAR volunteers! Please sign up to be a volunteer even if you can only come for one day. If you can stay there all 3 days then that is even better! Volunteers do get reimbursed for their gas money, and have lots of fun watching the delirious folks wonder through the woods.  Ask Liz if you have any questions about volunteering for POCAR.

PAST TRIPS

Samm, Peter, Joe, Mandy, and Andy went to The Red. Peter sent a 5.12A. Mandy sent a 5.10D.  Samm fell upside down but was ok because she just purchased a shiny new harness that was nice and snug, so make sure to wear safety gear that fits!

Nick smoked ½ of a turkey over a garbage can and had to fight off his dogs while it was cooking.

OUTGOING TRIPS

Isaac wants to start hiking to prepare himself for POCAR talk to him if interested.

Mandy wants to get a group together to go ice-skating.

**There will be NO MEETING next week OR finals week!  The usual meeting will be replaced with a POC Christmas party! The party will be held at Mandy’s apartment on the 7th at 7pm.  It will be a potluck dinner so bring your favorite dish to share.  Get into the holiday spirit and come wearing your most festive hats, socks, and sweaters!

Good luck to everyone on their final exams! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you next semester in our new meeting room Forney B124.
