POC Newsletter 9/12/06

Announcements!!
- POC Picnic next week, Sep 19th, at Pickett Park, subject to weather.
- There are two steps to being in POC. First, get on the listserv. If you are not on the listserv, please email me and explain how in blazes you got this newsletter. After that first most crucial step, turn in the waiver to Carol Johnson (or another officer) and, if you want to check out gear, pay $25 for the year or $20 for the semester. You can do this at any meeting, or e-mail Carol. johns266 at purdue.edu Outgoing Trips!!!

Climbing

- Tom is leading a another climbing callout: To the Red this weekend. For the this trip, you must have climbed with Tom or another prominent club climber before. The trip leaves Friday evening and returns Sunday night. tgermon at purdue.edu

  • Climb Time Towers is a climbing gym about an hour away on the north side of Indianapolis. The Red is Red River Gorge. It's the place we usually climb outside at, 5 hours away in KY. The Unlikely Wall is outdoor climbing a couple hours away. 

---On that note, Kristen is going to Towers tomorrow, Wed, at 4:30. This trip and all towers trips are open to anyone. khamann at purdue.edu

  • Climb Time Towers is a climbing gym about an hour away on the north side of Indianapolis. $11 for one day, $35 for a month, free gear rental for club members.

Backpacking
- The backpacking callout is this weekend at the Kettle Moraine State Forest in WI, but it's completely full. If you are not on the waiting list, sorry :-(. We will try to lead another beginner trip this semester. Most trips are pretty mild anyway, except for on breaks. Do not e-mail Kristen anymore about this, please refer to the thread on the POC forums at http://poc.purdue.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=282.

Mountain Biking

- The mountain biking callout is this Sunday, at Town Run in Indy. Open to anyone with a bike and a helmet. E-mail Jason for details, jhscott at purdue.edu

  • Town Run is a good place to mountain bike down in Indy. Kayaking

- There will be kayaking roll sessions starting this week, at the Aquatic Center, Wed from 8:00-9:30 and Fri from 7:00-8:15. E-mail Dave at drnelson at purdue.edu.

  • Roll sessions are held at the aquatic center. You get to play with a kayak in the pool, and learn how to roll, a critical kayaking skill.

Adventure Racing
- An adventure race callout of sorts is not this coming but next weekend. It's a 2-hour orienteering course. E-mail Ryan for details, rblank at purdue.edu.
- There will be another adventure race the first or second weekend of Oct. Mark your calendars
