POC Newsletter 10/21/03

Announcements:

-ALL POCERS new and old (for the new members a POC'er is a member of the POC [Purdue Outing Club]),  if you want to go on trips and check out gear you need to pay Jackie your dues and fill out a new liability waiver for this year.  If you think you might drive on any trip you need to fill out a driver form, one form works for the year.

-There is an American Bouldering Competition on Saturday October 25 at Climb Time. There will also be a bouldering photography competition there during the competition.  For more information contact Julie @ This email address is being protected from spambots. - POCAR (Purdue Outing Club Adventure Race) is just around the corner and there are some new happenings for this year.  All the specifics and the sign up forms will be posted on the webpage soon. Some important things to know now are that there will be only one division for POC race teams, so random teams and normal teams will compete together.  The teams can be all male, all female, or mixed.  The registration will close Tuesday December 2nd.  There will be around 25 POC teams, it is first come first serve, so sign up early.  The race will be January 17-19 in the Morgan Monroe St. Forest (South of Bloomington).  The cost is $20 for POC members and $40 for non-members. There will be some orienteering and winter hiking skills/info clinics to help you prepare for the race.

-If you are interested in volunteering for POCAR contact Nathan @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. volunteers get the same fun with none of the hallucinations (unlike last year)

-If you are interested in receiving First Aid or CPR certification at discounted rates (everyone should be, it is very easy and it could be very important with what we do), contact Ari @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and tell her which days of the week and what time in the evening work best for you.  The discount has yet to be determined. But before the discount, the rates are $30 for CPR and First Aid, or $25 for either.
