POC Newsletter 10/7/03

 

Grab a snack, here comes enough news to choke a small woodland mammal.

 

Announcements:

-For those of you who don't know the POC has a message board for all you conversing needs. @ http://poc.purdue.org/phpBB2/

-ALL POCERS new and old (for the new members a POC'er is a member of the POC [Purdue Outing Club]),  if you want to go on trips and check out gear you need to pay Jackie your dues and fill out a new liability waiver for this year.  If you think you might drive on any trip you need to fill out a driver form, one form works for the year.

-The Gear Closet will be open from 6:00pm -7:00pm for all your October break gear needs, but get there before 6:30; the closet will close early if no one is there.

-Discounts!  As if you needed another reason to be a POC member.  Your POC membership can get you 10% off at Galyans in Castleton, 10% off at Hodson's Bay in the levee, and 15% off Wildcat Creek Outfitters in Lafayette.

-There is an American bouldering (can you believe spell check doesn't know bouldering)  Competition on October 25 at Climb Time. -If you are interested in volunteering for POCAR (Purdue Outing Club Adventure Race) contact Nathan @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

-There is a swim test on Wednesday at 6:50 in the pool, Be Early.  There may also be one on Thursday at 7, contact Fred @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you cannot make it on Wednesday and you want to take the test on Thursday.  Remember if you can float you can pass.

October Break Trips:

-Climbing/Mt. Biking at the New River Gorge.  It is about an 8 hr drive and camping may be free, just think how much climbing (or biking) you can get in.  Contact Brian @ This email address is being protected from spambots. -Backpacking in the Smokey Mountains.  This is an beginner trip.  Contact Jim @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you want to go.

-Backpacking along part of the Adventure Hiking Trail.  This trip is open to everyone. It will leave Friday and return on Monday. Contact Noah @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested in going.

-Kayaking in the Paint Creek in Ohio.  This trip is open to anyone that has been to at least one roll session.  If you have not been to  a roll session you  may be able to go to the one on Friday and go on the trip, email Ryan to work this out.    Contact Ryan @ This email address is being protected from spambots.
